Here are just three of the many advantages to this switch:

1. The fun lasts forever. Counting dollars can be fun and exciting. The trouble with counting dollars is that for most folks the fun ends pretty quickly. Many Americans owe more dollars than they possess, a situation referred to as being financially upside down. This is never a good thing. Counting stars however, wow! The stars, like the blessings in life, never run out.

2. Star gazing tends to put us flat on our backs. Money tends to generate feelings of pride, and create self-absorbed individuals, who stand tall in their overconfidence. Unfortunately, pride comes before the fall. For the most part we’re better off when we’re flat on our backs. We tend to be humble in this position. This state of mind makes us kind, caring, compassionate, and grateful. Not to mention that when we can see outside of ourselves we can see a whole world of opportunity awaiting. We can see all the good and positive things that surround us.

3. You can go to sleep counting stars. There are countless people losing sleep in America fretting over financial issues. Looking at the stars on the other hand tends to lure us into a dreamy state of mind where we think big, we think about our goals, and those things that really matter in life. We gain a peace with ourselves and with the world around us that enables us to rest easy, knowing we are abundantly blessed. Who doesn’t feel refreshed and inspired to tackle the world after a good star gaze?

The last words from the chorus of Ryan Tedders song, Counting Stars, speak volumes. Straighten out your views on money and its importance, learn your lessons, and start counting your blessings.
